Steel-reinforced Spoolable Pipe Quickly Restores Offshore Production in Nigeria

The Challenge

The client needed to replace two offshore Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) pipelines to restore Gas Lift and Gas Production service. The solution required rapid delivery and installation using readily available vessels and equipment to minimize downtime and operational disruption.

The Solution

FlexSteel delivered both the proven product technology and offshore installation expertise to execute a faster, lower-maintenance alternative to traditional steel pipelines. Its corrosion-resistant composite design enabled a fast-track replacement while reducing long-term maintenance requirements. A total of 8 km of pipeline was installed: 4 km for gas and 4 km for oil using 6-inch, highpressure pipe. The new FlexSteel unbonded flexible flowlines connected two offshore platforms in the Gulf of Guinea.

By deploying coils, the number of subsea connections was significantly reduced, minimizing potential leak points and enhancing environmental integrity.

The Result

While offshore pipeline projects in the Gulf of Guinea are often challenged by extended timelines, this project was installed and commissioned in record time. Completion time from the Purchase Order date was less than six months, and the actual installation required only sixteen days. This represented a significant reduction in project execution time, saving the client millions in lost production.

The success of this project has established a new benchmark, with the client recognizing it as a blueprint for future oil and gas developments and replacements in the region.
