Before joining FlexSteel more than 20 years ago, Gene Corbin spent his days working as a machinist/welder for a furniture manufacturer and his nights working toward an associate's degree in electronics. Upon graduation, he was eager to put his education to work at a company with exciting technology, good growth prospects and attractive career opportunities. FlexSteel fit the bill. He joined the company as a Quality Control inspector.
As he gained experience, took advantage of company-provided training and earned numerous certifications, Gene has expanded his responsibilities and advanced his career. Among the highlights of his tenure with FlexSteel was the opportunity to participate in the start-up of two manufacturing facilities.
Now HSEQ Team Lead, Gene is spearheading implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system for quality and completing training that will lead to OSHA construction and general industry certifications. The most rewarding part of his job, according to Gene, is playing a meaningful role in maintaining a safe work environment. "I really enjoy being able to find the cause of safety incidents, prevent them from recurring and, most importantly, identify and eliminate potential hazards before incidents can occur," he said.
